An immersive ecosystem for creative thinkers
The Espace CDPQ is a hybrid formula of an innovation hub, accelerator and a co-working space. The 53,000 sf office space consolidates in one unique location 15 different ecosystem actors and a common space to host the privileged Quebec entrepreneurs expanding into international markets.
Lemay’s mission was to design a place that helps entrepreneurs grow and scale their business to become global successes, to surround themselves with the best coaches and advisors and expand their network of contacts by meeting influential international people within their industries, as well as seize financing opportunities through privileged access to the large donors with the goal to build sustainable and reputable Quebec companies with an international outreach.
The signature succeeds a clever balance between the disciplined culture of the CDPQ and the informal values of sharing and creativity advocated by co-working.
This prototypical and experimental environment brings the latest collaborative workspace trends to the forefront and offers its occupants an immersive ecosystem that facilitates creative thinking.
The ambiance and theme are based on Quebec’s historical builders and communities, which are represented across the variety of spaces and functions. A laneway unifies the design, as a quintessentially Montreal space facilitating exchange and rewarding cohabitation. The product translates into an edgy, informal, Montreal-branded space that stimulates originality and resourcefulness.
The two-storey space is interconnected by a large open atrium and spiral staircase and uniting the 173 advisors with the visiting entrepreneurs. The ground floor functions mainly as a meeting space with a 100 seat auditorium, an international LAB as well as closed and open meeting places, 3 permanent tenants and an exterior terrace space for public events. The 2nd story accommodates 12 multi- tenants as well as common spaces and meeting places. The multi-tenant space has very little dedicated meeting places within the individual suites encouraging the ecosystem of tenants to merge and mix within the free space.
The glass facade permits the individual tenants to have closed suites and guarantees the flow of natural daylight and views. Furniture; finishes; and lighting standards were implemented to expedite meeting the budget and the accelerated schedule while offering the multi-tenants a turn-key, move-in ready, progressive-looking office space.
The LAB space was strategically designed to create a sense of mystery with a concealed entrance and slits at the four corners to bear a resemblance to zippers on a tent, allowing visitors a sneak-peek into the live-action coaching sessions.
All of the meeting spaces and in-between spaces were designed with hi-tech (LCD monitors) and low-tech (writable surfaces) solutions to stimulate brainstorming and sharing of ideas.
Spaces to refresh were centrally planned with coffee, water and snacks to revitalize. Modular tables can be configured for a multitude of various functions and events.
Customized graphics perform as wayfinding and brand messaging. A wall of fame honours famous Quebec entrepreneurs leading the way.
