The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria project will provide a new and renewed 60,000sf public art gallery facility at its completion in 2019. Designed and conceived of by LWPAC as a new cultural community centre and public art forum, the design successfully advanced a new adaptable typology with multifunctional spaces to empower the broad complex range of stakeholders such as the gallery leadership and staff, artists, researchers, conservationists, members, neighbours, local and international visitors, schools and university faculty/students to interact, create and enjoy content, learn and to be inspired. LWPAC successfully led the project through the Rezoning and Development Permit approval process, creating a project that is authentic to our time, will prove to be relevant in the future, while being deeply respectful to its historic context with the integration of the 1889 Spencer Mansion and the natural heritage of the Garry Oak trees meadow.
