- 1-5 Stories
Situated on a west facing bay on Lake Rosseau, with the Rosseau Falls cascading down along the north side, this cottage takes cues from its logging camp heritage. Given its close proximity to the shoreline, the existing cottage was re-built on the original foundation to grandfather the zoning and allow for a larger, two-storey cottage to be built in its place. The owners were looking for more space to accommodate their growing family and larger family gatherings.
The main level was opened up and guest bedrooms moved to the upper floor. A formal entry with ample closet space leads to the main staircase and captures the view to the rock face behind the cottage. A large kitchen overlooks the living room, while the dining area connects to the sitting room which functions as a screened porch in the summer. The sitting room features the view of the falls which changes seasonally with the flow of water: in the spring it is a rushing river; by late summer it is a trickle across the rocks. The master suite is located on the main floor. Three guest bedrooms, a family room, large bathroom and laundry are located on the second floor.
Interior finishes are bright and natural, with clear pine of the ceilings, local stone on the fireplace, and oak flooring throughout. The custom kitchen features a walnut island and grey painted shaker cabinetry. Large windows around the living spaces allow the indoor spaces to connect with the surroundings in every direction. The large overhangs protect the inside from the summer sun and keep the cottage feeling warm and cozy all year.
