Hans Hertlein (1881-1963), one of the most significant German industrial architects, supplied the design for the production plant of ‘Telefunken Gesellschaft für drahtlose Telegraphie’ in Berlin, which was constructed from 1937 to 1940.

As from 1945, the completely preserved premises had been used by the US Army as the McNair Barracks and were put under a preservation order in 1995. Today, the historic building ensemble is Berlin’s second largest industrial monument (after the Tempelhof Airport).

The architecture of the existing building is characterised by high ceilings and light window front. The Green Lofts project in Berlin’s Zehlendorf district is currently the largest residential ensemble in a listed complex in Germany.

At the moment, the conversion of the former industrial area, which was used as a military administration, is in full swing. The refurbishment of the buildings comprises the energy-related modernisation according to the KFW 70 standard. The mix of apartment types is highly diversified in order to address many different groups of buyers and thus allow the development of a varied, lively quarter.

The loft apartments vary regarding their size and are perfectly suited for couples and small families. The lofts are laid out with generous living-dining areas with deep balconies, which open up towards the large courtyards.

The town houses suitable for families are located on the ground floor and first floor. The ground floor living area provides access to a garden, whereas the bedrooms are situated above.

Small apartments for young people as well as barrier-free apartments including nursing services for the elderly are planned.
On top of the building, exclusive rooftop bungalows with generous layouts are newly constructed. Each rooftop bungalow offers a terrace with a roof garden and an unrestricted view across Berlin.

The grounds were structured with paths and elaborately planted to achieve a high quality that invites the residents to linger. The underground car park prevents parked cars in the outdoor area. Common rooms provide space for communication and gatherings.
