Community
Equally important to fulfilling professional commitments, the diversity of nkA's background enables the firm to foster its own philanthropic spirit. Leveraging the diverse skills and industry resources of the team, members of nkA have volunteered their services to such organizations as Habitat for Humanity Toronto and Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, as well as collaborating with a team of Canadian naturopathic doctors aiming to establish a charitable organization to raise awareness and funding for integrative patient care.
Design Quality
As an emerging practice, nkA is gaining recognition for a conscientious and detailed approach to its growing portfolio of work. While the awards and publications are affirmations of our passion and commitment, nkA remains conscious that a project's success is not solely judged by the professional accolades it receives, but more importantly is defined by the individuality of the client and its responsiveness to established project parameters, context and environment.
Sustainability
A holistic approach that harmonizes passive strategies with the building's active systems is critical to meet the challenges of today's environmental considerations. We approach sustainability not just as a measurable target, but as in integral consideration in the development process of a project. With every project, we analyze the rudimentary principles of site planning, orientation, massing, building envelope and micro-climate harmonization as a critical first step in re-establishing a symbiotic relationship between our built and natural environment. Integrating passive design strategies within the building's architecture is a responsible, cost effective way of reducing energy consumption, improving indoor air quality and thermal comfort with zero impact on the project budget.
