It's easy to draw comparisons between the two-minute taste given in the below trailer uploaded yesterday by Good Company Pictures (which produced the film with Sonntag Pictures) and the 45-minute episode on Ingels that is part of Netflix's eight-part Abstract: The Art of Design series. The latter follows Ingels and his eponymous firm over some months as they design the Serpentine Pavilion, while BIG TIME, which was made over a longer period of time (five years), depicts the realization of VIA 57 West and the design of 2 World Trade Center. Furthermore, the Netflix episode gives viewers a glimpse into the architect's personal life through, among other things, discussions with his parents, while the trailer, on the other hand, provides an intimate view through some health issues that we can only hope are benign. Watching BIG TIME in Copenhagen or later, once the doc finds a wider release, may be the only way to learn the extent of those issues and their bearing on Ingels's ambitious transformation of the Manhattan skyline.
